Another horse loose on busy dual carriageway killed near Brynmawr
Emergency services were called to the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road, near Brynmawr, at around 10:10pm on Thursday, 28 August, following reports of a collision involving a car and a horse. Gwent Police confirmed that no injuries were sustained, but sadly one horse died at the scene. A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on A465, heading towards Brynmawr, at around 10.10pm on Thursday 28 August.
"The collision involved a car and horse. No injuries were reported. One horse died at the scene."
Motorists using the A465 were advised to approach the area with care and witnesses reported seeing other horses on the carriageway during the incident. Drivers described animals running along the central reservation, prompting concerns for road safety. "Be careful if you're on Head of the Valleys Road. A Horse been hit by a car in middle of the road, a few cars on lay by, and four horses running up the middle reservation. Police enroute."
This is the second incident this month in which horses have been struck and killed on the A465 near Brynmawr. On August 11, two horses died at the scene of a road traffic collision during which drivers were hospitalised. Concern as to how this is happening is apparent.
Hugh Thomas said: "This is similar to what happened only a few weeks ago.
