Cars, vans and lorries taken off Staffordshire roads in busy morning of action by police

The Staffordshire Police Road Crime[1] Team were called into action across Saturday morning between junctions 13 and 14 near Stafford[2] and Stone, starting with a Sprinter van which was spotted by officers as overloaded. The van was escorted to a weighbridge and was found to be significantly overweight, so was immobilised and the driver reported.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team[3] said: "This Sprinter was spotted M6 J13 to J14 and appeared to be overloaded. "Vehicle escorted off M6 to DVSA weighbridge where it was found to be 37.7 per cent over on gross. "Vehicle immobilised and driver reported."

The next stoppage was for a Peugeot reported stolen from the West Midlands Police area, where the force said the driver had either failed or refused to return the car to the leasing company, and was seized by officers.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "Between the M6 junction 13 to junction 14, a stolen vehicle was stopped as reported stolen from the West Midlands Police area.

"Turns out driver failed/refused to return the vehicle back to leasing company. Vehicle seized." A Mercedes lorry was the next vehicle to be stopped and seized after it was found to have no insurance.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "Between the M6 junction 13 to junction 14, another Mercedes was stopped and seized for no insurance. "Driver thought they had insurance, but didn't do any checks."

Another Mercedes, this time a van, was the next to be taken off the road after it was found to a number of condition issues.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "On the M6 at junction 14, we did a stop check on this Sprinter due to condition.

"A PG9 was issued for defective indicators and braking system fault." The next stoppage had been for a van with no insurance, but later checks found the driver had been wanted by Interpol, so he was taken into custody.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "On the M6 at junction 13, a stop check on this van due to showing no insurance. "Enquiries with driver reveal they were not insured, however this is least of their problems. "They were wanted by Interpol for extradition to France to serve 6 years for aggravated theft.

Custody for 1." Finally, a Vauxhall Corsa was taken off the road and the driver reported after it was found to have no brake lights.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "On the M6 at junction 14, this Corsa was stopped due to showing no insurance.

"Upon speaking to the driver, it turns out it is insured, however the Corsa had no brake lights and was issued a PG9 & immobilised.

Driver reported."
