An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer vehicle arrived at the scene and an officer was taken to hospital for treatment while collision investigators cordoned off the A134 leading to Turner Road. The driver of the Ford Mustang, who remained on the scene in the hours after the collision, is not understood to have sustained any injuries and no arrests have been made. An onlooker said the layout of the roundabout makes it dangerous for drivers.

He said: "We live nearby - we found out about it because we got a message on Facebook. "How would I know if I am coming from the opposite side of the roundabout where a police car is coming from, if there are six exits?

"The civilian driver is definitely not in the wrong - that's why he's standing there normally. "We know how the police treat you when anyone does something wrong. "This roundabout is much worse than the Tesco magic roundabout [in Greenstead] - that is much safer."
