A lorry driver has been arrested after a crash. Emergency services[2] were called to a multi-vehicle crash[3] on the A55 near Pentre Halkyn[4] at 3.21pm in Flintshire yesterday (Saturday, August 9).

North Wales[5] Police (NWP) said an artic lorry travelling in the eastbound carriageway had collided with two vehicles travelling in the opposite carriageway. A major incident was declared and a Wales Air Ambulance was called from Welshpool to airlift one person to Royal Stoke University Hospital. Another person was taken to Stoke Hospital by ambulance.

Two more were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, by ambulance.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation whilst inquiries continue, reports Daily Post[6].

The A55 was closed in both directions for several hours while officers from the NWP Forensic Collision Investigation Unit carried out investigation work.

One lane of the dual carriageway in both directions was opened just before midnight, to allow barrier repairs to take place. A 40mph speed restriction is now in place.

Traffic Wales[7] has warned of "long delays throughout the day".

Sgt Danielle Ashley of the NWP Roads Crime Unit is appealing for witnesses. She said: "We'd like to thank all those who have already provided us with their details following yesterday's collision.

"However we are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dash cam footage just prior to the collision taking place, to contact us as soon as possible.

"I'd also like to thank motorists for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident. One lane in each carriageway has since re-opened whilst repairs are carried out on the central reservation.

"Motorists are advised to follow Traffig Cymru Gogledd a Chanolbarth Traffic Wales North & Mid for updates."

Anybody with information is asked to contact officers at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via the NWP website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 25000657103.
