Four-vehicle crash leaves A10 in Cambridgeshire closed for eight hours

A major Cambridgeshire[1] A-road remains closed after eight hours following a crash[2]. The A10 Ely Road between Stretham and Chittering[3] remains closed as of 3.55pm today (Friday, August 15). Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "A10 Ely[4] Road in both directions closed due to accident between A1123 Wilburton Road (Stretham) and Green End (Waterbeach[5]).

Traffic is coping well." The road has been closed since 7.10am following the crash which involved three cars and a lorry. Cambridgeshire[6] Police said recovery work is taking place along the road. In a statement earlier, officers confirmed two people had been taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at about 7.10am this morning (August 15) to the A10 between Stretham and Chittering to reports of a collision between three cars and a lorry. Two people have been taken to hospital and the road remains closed." Another crash took place on the A14[7] near junction 37 of the Newmarket[8] bypass at around 9.10am, which affected a main route into Ely and traffic along the road.
