Inquest delayed into tragic death of Tony Sheil in Scotland

Tony Sheil, from Haydock, was killed in a road accident in Scotland almost two years ago, an inquest in Warrington heard on Wednesday. The 51-year-old died on November 24, 2023, on the A75 route from Gretna Green to Stranraer, when his van was involved in a collision with a lorry. Tony dreamed of moving to rural Scotland to eventually retire with his partner Michaela Yates, which is what his family did in 2022.

Finding his 'dream home' in southwest Scotland, he planned to renovate the property in his retirement until his life was tragically cut short. Working as a foreman for a Scottish green firm, Tony was just minutes away home when his Ford Transit van was involved in a collision with a Volvo motor lorry. Devastated Michaela said: "He found his dream home and loved his job so he really loved living here.

"I could see a big change in him, he was like a different person, and had plans to do the house up and set up some Labrador kennels in his retirement. "Now it feels like I've been robbed of the next 30 years of my life. "It still doesn't feel real and feels like we are just waiting for him to come home."

Criminal charges are still being investigated, Cheshire Coroners' Court was told this week.

Cheshire coroner Victoria Davies agreed to a request to suspend the inquest for a further three months until November 17.
