Investigation into Catterick crash that killed John Mitchell ongoing
John Robert Mitchell, from Catterick Garrison, was riding his scooter on the A6136 Catterick Road on June 11, when it collided by a military truck.
On Monday (August 11), North Yorkshire Police confirmed their investigation into Mr Mitchell's death "remains ongoing". An inquest was opened into his death last month when Senior Coroner for York and North Yorkshire, Jonathan Heath, recorded a provisional cause of death of lower neck injuries. The inquest was adjourned pending further police investigation.

As previously reported, the road remained closed for more than six hours after the incident. The driver and passenger in the military truck, both men, are continuing to assist North Yorkshire Police with its enquiries, the force said.
Floral tributes were left at the roadside near the scene, where Mr Mitchell was described as a "pillar of the community". One tribute read: "Even at 70, he was more consistent than most at the gym." Another added: "His love for life was contagious, and his kindness touched so many."
A spokesperson for the police force said: "If you witnessed the collision and have not yet made a report to the police, please come forward as soon as possible to assist our investigation.
"This also includes motorists with relevant dashcam footage of the collision itself or the vehicles before the incident."
