Live M6 updates as lorry crash shuts motorway near Stoke-on-Trent
Motorists are being warned a stretch of the M6 through North Staffordshire could be closed for 'most of the morning' following a collision. Emergency services had been called to the northbound carriageway last night where a lorry had overturned. This morning and National Highways says the recovery of the lorry involved is ongoing with officials also dealing with the subsequent fuel spillage.
The closure is in place between Junction 14 and Junction 15. Meanwhile officers with Staffordshire Police's road crime team say that thankfully no injuries have been reported. Cops sent to the scene also shared an image of the lorry on the carriageway.
National Highways had confirmed the northbound closure at around 10.30pm last night. In a post on X officials say 'all emergency services' had been sent to what they described as a 'serious collision involving an overturned lorry'. During the night and police turned around traffic caught up in the closure.
In its latest update National Highways said works to recovery the truck was ongoing. Earlier this morning and two lanes on the southbound also had to be shut. A post on X added: "The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning."
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police's road crime team said only the lorry was involved in the collision with diesel subsequently being spilled 'all over the carriageway'. A spokesperson added: "Luckily no injuries report. Road likely to be closed most of the morning for resurfacing and repairs."
