M6 shutdown LIVE: Overturned lorry sparks traffic chaos with major delays

The M6 has been closed in both directions after a lorry overturned[1], sparking traffic chaos for commuters this Monday morning. Emergency services raced to the scene of the crash[2] in Cumbria between J41 for Wigton and J42 for Carlisle South. Cumbria Police said the crash happened at about 3:43am this morning and that it involved an HGV and a Vauxhall Corsa.

Cumbria Police statement

Cumbria Police said in a statement: "The M6, south of Carlisle, between junctions 41 and 42 is closed in both directions following a collision which has resulted in a HGV overturning. "Police were contacted at 3:43am today with a report of a collision involving a HGV and a Vauxhall Corsa.

"There are no serious injuries reported, however the closure will be in place for some time as the HGV is recovered.

"Motorists, where possible, are asked to avoid the area and allow extra time for any journey."
