Major police update after woman killed in car collision in Smethwick

Erjon Aliaj, 35, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving

West Midlands Police have issued a major update after a woman died following a collision with a car.

The tragic incident happened on Thimblemill Road, in Smethwick[1], ay 9.30pm, on Thursday, August 28.

The 62-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.

Now police have said that Erjon Aliaj, 35, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was remanded into custody and was due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates today, Saturday, August 30.

In a statement, police said: "We've charged a man following a fatal collision in Smethwick[5].

"We were called to Thimblemill Road shortly before 9.30pm on Thursday (28 August) after a car struck a pedestrian.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 62-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.

"Erjon Aliaj was arrested following the incident and has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

"The 35-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates today (30 August).

"Our thoughts remain with the woman's family at this tragic time, and specialist officers are keeping them up to date with the latest developments.
