Multi-vehicle M2 smash between Faversham and Stockbury Interchange sparks gridlock stretching back five miles
A crash involving a lorry and two cars has blocked a motorway and sparked five miles of gridlock. Vehicles were being held on the M2 London-bound between Junction 6 for Faversham and Junction 5 for the Stockbury Interchange after the collision at 10.17am today.
Speaking this afternoon, a police spokesperson said patrols, highways officers, fire crews and paramedics attended the scene where three people were treated for injuries. "They were taken to a local hospital for further medical attention, and the vehicles were recovered," they added.
The injuries are not life-threatening, it is understood. Highway officials say there were five miles of congestion and delays in excess of an hour. Motorists have faced delays across the county this morning[1] following accidents on the A2, M2, M20 and a vehicle fire on the A249.
All lanes have now reopened on the M2.
The crash is likely to have a knock-on effect on surrounding roads.
