Police appeal as detached wheel injures two and damages cars on M62

Four vehicles were damaged and two people were injured following the incident on the M62 on Wednesday. It occurred at around 3.10pm between junction six for Tarbock Island and junction seven for Rainhill Stoops. Merseyside Police says that a large wheel, which is suspected to have become detached from another vehicle, struck four other vehicles.

The other vehicles were travelling on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways, causing significant damage. Two people travelling in the vehicles that were hit by the wheel suffered minor injuries, it has been confirmed. Merseyside Police is now appealing for any witnesses of the incident on the M62 to come forward.

PC Adam Cheshire, of the force's roads policing unit, said: "This was a shocking incident for those involved, and it is fortunate that the injuries caused were only minor. "We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or witnessed which vehicle this wheel came from. "We are also keen to obtain any dash-cam footage of the incident."
