Police car crashed into Volkswagen on A66, Middlesbrough
The police car was travelling along the A66 near Cargo Fleet Lane with its blue lights on at about 10.40pm when the crash with a Volkswagen took place. The officer sustained minor injuries - but a member of the public suffered fractures to his collar bone and pelvis and was taken to James Cook University Hospital. (Image: TERRY BLACKBURN) A Cleveland Police spokesperson added: "The A66 was temporarily closed in both directions to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and both vehicles were recovered. "Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing and we would appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police as well as anyone with dash cam or other relevant footage to contact Cleveland Police."

(Image: TERRY BLACKBURN) A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A66 near Cambridge Road in Middlesbrough last night (August 18) at 10.41pm. "We dispatched three ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic and one duty officer to the incident.
Two patients were taken to James Cook University Hospital."
