Police confirm lorry driver medical episode led to A12 crash

The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway between Junction 19 (Boreham Interchange) and Junction 18 (A414/Sandon) at approximately 9:05am, completely blocking the London-bound route during the height of rush hour traffic. An Essex Police spokesperson said: "This appears to be a lorry driver who had a medical episode.

We were called at around 9.05am and the issue was resolved about 90 minutes later." The crash caused significant disruption across the A12 network, with southbound traffic backing up extensively to Junction 21 (Hatfield Peverel). The ripple effect of the closure also impacted northbound traffic, creating slow-moving conditions back to Junction 17 (A130/Howe Green).

Emergency services worked swiftly at the scene to clear the collision and assist the driver involved in the medical incident.

The road is now fully reopened, though residual delays continued as the backlog of traffic through the day.
