Police issue update on A56 lorry crash as road closed for hours with ‘severe delays’

A lorry driver and passenger have suffered 'minor injuries' following a serious crash on the A56 this morning.

All traffic has been held on the dual carriageway in Rossendale[1] since shortly after 5.30am today (August 18). The incident happened between the A680 Manchester Road in Haslingden[2] and junction 1 of the M66 for Ramsbottom and Edenfield.

Pictures from the scene show a lorry on its side after colliding with the central reservation barrier. Lancashire[3] Police said emergency services attended and the A56 will remain closed in both directions 'for some time' as they make the area safe. Advertisement
