Barrow: Loud motorbike leads to drug driving sentence for apprentice A TEENAGE apprentice mechanic was caught drug driving on New Year' Day, a court heard. Kingsley Davies, of Piel View Grove, Barrow, was stopped on Rawlinson Street on January 1 this year by officers after they heard a loud noise coming from the defendant's Yamaha motorbike, prosecutor Peter Bardsley told South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.
Barrow woman caught driving whilst nearly 3x over drink driving limit A WOMAN has been banned for more than two years after she was caught drink driving. Shannon Macadie, of Roose Road, Barrow, was sentenced for driving a Hyundai with alcohol above the legal limit when she appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on July 30.
M6: Daniel Burba jailed after killing 14-year-old son in crash A DAD who killed his 14-year-old son in a crash on the M6 while drug driving has been jailed. Daniel Burba was behind the wheel of a Peugeot Bipper van when it collided with a tree just off the southbound hard shoulder of the M6 between junctions 34 and 33.
Barrow dad Jordan McQuinn jailed for strangling ex-girlfriend A JEALOUS dad with a 'history of violence in intimate relationships' has been jailed for strangling his ex-girlfriend. Jordan McQuinn, of Cross Street, Barrow, was left 'stewing in jealousy' on March 2 last year after a chance meeting in which his former partner showed him her newly purchased car, Preston Crown Court heard.
Couple drowned in flash floods on Majorca hike, inquest hears A young couple were drowned in flash floods while on a hiking holiday in Majorca, an inquest has heard. Climbing instructor and lifeguard Alexander Barrett, 32, tried to help his partner Sarah Thompson, who had represented Cumbria at fell running in national competitions, as a "wall of water" cascaded down the canyon they were descending with a group of other hikers, Stockport Coroner's Court heard.
Inquest: Barrow mum, 68, died after ERCP gallstone procedure AN 'incredibly special' mum and grandmother from Barrow died in hospital at Christmas due to complications from a procedure to remove a gallstone, an inquest has heard. Patricia Leslie Turnbull, 68, died in the early hours of December 26, 2024 in Furness General Hospital after a bowel perforation during or soon after an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure to remove a gallstone initially went unnoticed by clinicians.
Barrow dad Samuel Crawford assaulted man who threatened to kill son AN 'impulsive' dad launched a 'vicious and unjustified attack' on a man in Barrow who threatened to kill his son, a court heard. Samuel Crawford, of Duncan Street, Barrow, escaped an immediate prison term when he appeared for sentencing at The Sessions House, Preston Crown Court.
Millom man assaulted woman causing 'significant bruising' to her body A MAN has been jailed after he caused 'significant bruising' to a woman's body in an 'extensive assault' in the Lake District. Philip Braithwaite, of Huddleston Road, Millom, was sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm alongside his girlfriend Sophie McEwan, of High Greenbank, Ambleside, who admitted one count of common assault at Carlisle Crown Court.
Cumbrian rapist Rhys Eaton jailed for 25 years A man has been jailed for 25 years for fifteen offences including multiple rapes, sexual assaults, assaults and attempted rape. Rhys Eaton, aged 34 of Orchard Place, Cleator Moor, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court following a trial in May 2025 and a conviction last year.
Barrow man assaulted victim in street after calling him a nonce A MAN 'let his emotions get the better of him' during an 'unprovoked assault' in Barrow, a court heard. Kristen Downing, of Near Field Walk, Barrow, pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on August 7.
Barrow drug addict Leigh Samms caught with cocaine A DRUG addict with a 'very poor' criminal record has been sentenced after he was caught in possession of a Class A drug in Barrow. Leigh Samms, of Barton Street, Barrow, was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act by officers at around 12:30am on March 28 this year, South Cumbria Magistrates' Court heard.
Inquest: Dalton mechanic died from crash at A595 Grizebeck A 'DEARLY loved husband, father and grandfather' died from injuries sustained in a motorbike crash on a narrow stretch of the A595, an inquest has heard. Brian Michael Evans, 57, died in the Royal Preston Hospital on March 11, 2025, five days after his motorbike collided into the back of his friend's motorcycle on a stretch of road on the A595 between Kirkby and Grizebeck.
