Firefighters and police were called out after a truck hit a historic railway bridge in the city. And the collision in Longton came at a time the nearby A50 was just getting moving after a smash.
Emergency services were sent to the iconic green bridge over King Street at around 3.55pm yesterday (August 12). Just over an hour before that and the A50 westbound was 'blocked' due to a crash at Heron Cross with motorists seeking alternative routes.
As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1], that collision had resulted in queues around Blurton[2], Fenton[3] and Longton[4].
Meanwhile officers sent to the bridge crash outside the Crown Hotel say there were no injuries.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[5] said: "We were called to King Street, Longton, following reports of a HGV colliding with a bridge. One appliance attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and Network Rail.

A Staffordshire Police[6] spokeswoman added: "Officers attended the scene and assisted with traffic management.
Nobody was reported injured and officers left the scene at 5pm."
The bridge was built back in 1891 and takes trains towards East Staffordshire.
Back in 2013 it was announced that the historic Longton viaduct would be given a GBP1.6 million revamp with paintwork and 'essential' repairs.
