Two arrested as woman seriously hurt in A14 crash

Two people have been arrested and a woman in her 30s has been left seriously injured after a crash that shut part of the A14 for six hours.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway in Northamptonshire at about 14:00 BST after a 4x4 truck ended up in a field.

It happened between junctions one and two, near Naseby, but police currently think the Ford Ranger was the only vehicle involved.

An 18-year-old man from Sutton Coldfield and an 18-year-old woman from Walsall have been arrested.

The rear-seat passenger was taken to University Hospital Coventry with serious injuries after the truck travelled up an embankment.

The man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and serious assault.

They both remain in police custody.

The westbound stretch of the A14 reopened at about 20:30.

Northamptonshire Police is appealing for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
