Two paramedics taken to hospital after car crashes into ambulance on M2 Junction 4 slip-road for Gillingham
Two paramedics are among four people taken to hospital after an ambulance was involved in a crash on an M2 slip road. There was a huge emergency response at the Brooms Wood Interchange at Junction 4 for Gillingham last night following the collision.
One ambulance crew member was taken to London hospital, while another was taken to Tunbridge Wells for treatment. Both female paramedics' conditions are described as non-life-threatening.
The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time as it was en route to a hospital transfer. Two men travelling in a car have also been taken to hospital. Both the London-bound and coast-bound exits closed overnight and reopened at around 7.30am (August 30).
Hoath Way was also closed between the M2 and the roundabout for Hempstead Valley and Wigmore after the collision shortly before 9pm.
Residents living nearby reported hearing "an almighty bang" before police and paramedics descended on the scene.
An air ambulance landed in Kings Frith park shortly before 9.45pm. There was also a noticeable increase in officers patrolling the area. Dave Harris, who lives in Wigmore, says he heard the collision this evening.
"I was sitting indoors and there was an almighty bang," the 73-year-old told KentOnline at the scene. "I took the dogs out and saw all the lights [on the slip-road]. "I have never heard a bang like it.
"You get a lot of speeding along here, so at first I thought it was along Deanwood Drive.
"You could see the blue lights and the police have closed Hoath Way tonight.
"There is a heavy police presence. There have been police helicopters up, there was an air ambulance down at Kings Frith, and there have been drones up." An ambulance service spokesman said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene alongside fellow emergency services following reports of injuries to the two female crew members on board the ambulance and injuries to members of the public in another vehicle.
"Our thoughts are with all those involved in the incident, including all those who responded."
A police spokesperson says they were called to a report a car had struck an ambulance.
"Officers are currently attending the scene alongside other emergency services," they said.
