The road was initially closed in both directions, with the northbound carriageway reopening just after 5.30am.
Lincolnshire Police[1] officers were at the scene and the A1 southbound reopened just before 7am.
It's unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident.
National Highways later announced the road was closed southbound again at 12.30pm to allow for recovery works to take place.
In a statement, the authority said: "The A1 in Lincolnshire is closed southbound between the B6326 near Newark-on-Trent and the B1174 near Grantham for recovery following an earlier collision.
"Delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes." Advertisement

Roads around Newark Castle and Gardens were also busy at the time due to traffic diverting.
