A339: 70-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash with lorry

A 70-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a fatal crash with a flatbed lorry on the A339 Basingstoke Road in Newtown near Newbury. Police were called to a crash "involving a blue Piaggio motorbike and a white DAF flatbed lorry" at about midday yesterday (September 24). More: Police close road for hours after 'serious' crash[1]

Thames Valley Police said that the rider of the motorbike, a 70-year-old man from the Isle of Wight area, "very tragically" died at the scene. The man has not yet been formally identified, but police said his next of kin have been contacted and are being support by specially trained officers. No arrests have been made and police are appealing for witnesses. Investigating officer Sergeant Sarah Davies, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the motorcyclist who has sadly died in this collision. "I am appealing for any witnesses who saw what happened and have not already spoken to the police to please come forward.

"I am also keen to speak to any motorists who have captured footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it on their dash-cams.
