A4440 Southern Link Road speed checks after crashes

West Mercia Police carried out the checks on the A4440 Southern Link Road in Worcester today. An officer was seen by a bridge carrying out the checks as a parish council, which has received complaints about noise nuisance from drivers, thanked West Mercia Police for carrying out the checks. There have also been a number of crashes on or near the dual carriageway, including one at the Ketch just before 9pm on Sunday, September 7 when a driver struck a lamppost, the car ending up on the pavement.

Marshall Myers, 22, a "doting" father of three died following a crash at the A4440 roundabout between St Peter's Drive and Norton Road on June 15. A spokesperson for St Peter's Parish Council thanked the police for carrying out the speed checks, adding: "Residents have told parish councillors that Sunday mornings in particular are a time of the week when speeding vehicles, and the noise they generate, are a nuisance to them. The Parish Council has raised those concerns with our Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team.

"While St Peter's Parish Council is working with others to find permanent solutions to the issues the A4440 presents to St Peter's residents it will also continue to press for effective enforcement action by West Mercia Police.

By working in partnership it is hoped this will lead to a safer and quieter Southern Link Road."
