All-day closure on M6 after lorry overturns and catches fire

PART of the M6 in Cumbria has been closed all day[1] after a lorry overturned and caught fire this morning (Thursday, September 11). The incident happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 37 (Kendal) and junction 39 (Shap). National Highways North West said the road is expected to reopen this evening.

In a statement on social media, they wrote: "Emergency resurfacing is into its final stages and it's expected the road will be reopened before late evening." Two lanes of the southbound carriageway were also closed past the scene but have since reopened. Police confirmed the lorry driver suffered non-serious injuries and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Motorists have been advised to expect delays.
