Banking giant announces 46 closures across UK
Customers of two major UK banks[1] have been warned of a number of closures across the country[2] - including three sites in Derbyshire[3]. NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have announced plans to close 46 mobile bank branches at the beginning of next year.
The branches, which act as a mobile bank located in a van or truck, travel [4]to different locations and are designed to support the public, due to the lack of physical bank branches. Customers can typically use them to complete everyday banking tasks, such as paying in money and cheques, as well as basic account enquiries, the Mirror reports[5].

The mobile banks that NatWest and RBS are closing will shut for the final time in January 2026. A spokesperson from NatWest Group, which owns both NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank, said: "We continue to invest in creating a sustainable branch network and we are proud to be the only UK bank that operates a cash-based mobile branch service to serve communities without easy access to banking services across all four nations.
"We regularly review our network to ensure we are delivering the best coverage for customers. While we will continue to service the same number of routes, we will be removing a small number of stops on those routes where there is duplication with a banking hub."
Three Derbyshire locations are included on the list. The hub in Ashbourne's Shawcroft Car Park, best known for its role in the town's Royal Shrovetide Football[6] match, and the mobile branch esin Belper's Field Lane Car Park and Shirebrook Market Place are expected to close at the beginning of next year.

Following the closures, people needing face-to-face support can use any bank within the NatWest group for everyday services.
For example, NatWest customers can use RBS branches, and vice versa.
You can also visit the Post Office[7] to pay in and withdraw cash, check your balance, and deposit cheques.
