Cumbria Police reveal locations of their speed camera vans for Tuesday, September 9
Speed camera vans will be in place in Wigton, the A5302, the A6 and the M6. Police reveal the location of their speed camera vans each day and place them in known speeding hotspots. A freedom of information request by the News and Star revealed the highest speeds recorded during 2024.
The highest speed recorded in Carlisle city centre was 71 miles per hour and the highest recorded in Whitehaven was 64 miles per hour. Drivers have also been breaking the law in parts of the county with low speed limits. The fastest speed recorded in a 20 mile per hour zone in Cumbria was 45 miles per hour and the fastest speed recorded in 30 miles per hour zone was a shocking 78 miles per hour. The busiest speed cameras in Cumbria were located on the A591 at Ings travelling east, the A66 at Kirkby Thore travelling west and the A66 at Kirkby Thore travelling east.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Today our Road Safety Camera vans will be operating in the Wigton area, the A5302 between Wigton and Abbeytown, the M6 J42 - J40 and the A6 between Carlisle & Penrith.
"Please drive carefully."
