Huddersfield Road crash latest as woman suffers ‘significant’ injuries

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after a van hit the back of a lorry in Mirfield[1] this morning.

The crash led to the closure of the A644 Huddersfield Road near to the John Cotton factory. The passenger, a woman, of the van had to be freed from the damaged vehicle and suffered "significant injuries", according to police.[2][3]

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called to the A644 Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, at 7.35am to reports of a collision involving a van which had gone into the back of a lorry. A passenger in the van was freed from the vehicle by emergency services and has been taken to hospital with significant injuries.

"A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst over the prescribed limit (alcohol)."

The A644 Huddersfield Road has been closed between the Miller and Carter Steakhouse (old Three Nuns pub) and Coppin Hall Lane.

Motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it took a female to Leeds General Infirmary with a reported leg injury.
