Huge delays on M62 near Huddersfield after van crash

The collision happened on the M62, near junction 23 (Huddersfield), this morning and all traffic had to be stopped. A spokesperson for National Highways: Yorkshire said at 11.11am: "Traffic stopped. Due to a collision involving a van which has crossed through the central reservation."

Highways officers and those from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit rushed to the scene.[1] The scene on the M62 this morning (Image: National Highways) Shortly after, a recovery team was at the scene to remove the van from the central reservation and National Highways: Yorkshire warned drivers to "allow plenty of extra time" for journeys, with "severe delays of one hours".

The van was removed but the National Highways: Yorkshire spokesperson said the central barrier had been damaged in the crash and "needs immediate repair", with contractors on route to carry that work out. The third lane on both sides of the carriageway was closed between junction 22 (Saddleworth) and junction 23, as a result. In an update just before 4pm, National Highways: Yorkshire said both carriageways remain closed.

This is causing one-hour delays on the westbound carriageway and 35 minutes on the eastbound carriageway.

Queues on the westbound carriageway can be seen stretching as far back as junction 25 (Brighouse).
