Live M6 traffic updates as motorway closed after crash sees lorry overturn in Lancashire

The M6 motorway is closed in Lancashire following a crash that has seen a lorry overturn this morning (Tuesday, September 2). The northbound carriageway is shut to traffic between Junction 34 and Junction 35, with all emergency services at the scene. The closure was first reported at 2.26am, with a fuel spillage reported as a result of the incident and a diversion route in place.

Lancashire Police says the driver involved was taken to hospital for treatment to rib and arm injuries. "Our officers attended and found that an HGV had overturned and collided with the central reservation. No other vehicle was involved. "The driver of the HGV suffered arm and rib injuries and was taken to hospital.

"It is anticipated that the northbound carriageway will be closed for some time while resurfacing and repair work takes place. One lane of the southbound carriageway is closed. "Anyone who witnessed the collision, please contact 101, quoting log 0095 of September 2."

"Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service are in attendance.

National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene to assist with traffic management." Meanwhile, traffic has also been affected by a van fire at junction 31, near Preston.

A police spokesperson said: "We currently have a road closure in place, due to a van fire, on the M6, junction 31 northbound slip road. "The slip road is likely to be closed for some time, whilst our highways and fire services attend to this incident.
