Lorry crash on A12 causes traffic chaos near Essex town

The A12 Chelmsford Bypass remains completely closed northbound this afternoon following a serious multi-vehicle collision involving a jack-knifed lorry between Junction 17 A130 Howe Green and Junction 18 A1060 Danbury. The incident has brought traffic to a standstill, with motorists reporting being stationary for extended periods.

"I'm stationary on the A12 Colchester bound," one frustrated driver said. The crash has caused widespread disruption throughout Chelmsford as drivers seek alternative routes. Princes Road, West Way and Waterhouse Lane are all heavily congested as traffic diverts through the city centre to avoid the closure.

Howe Green roundabout is experiencing severe congestion as vehicles attempt to find alternative routes around the blocked carriageway. The multi-vehicle collision has effectively brought the main route between Chelmsford and Colchester to a complete halt during what would normally be a busy evening travel period. Emergency services and recovery teams are on scene working to clear the lorry and other vehicles involved in the crash.
