M5 crash live as southbound carriageway lanes closed near West Midlands

A motorway in the region has been brought to a standstill. Traffic[1] on the southbound section of the M5 near the West Midlands is currently being held. Traffic[2] monitoring service Inrix says this is due to a crash.

Inrix said in an update: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident[6] on M5 Southbound at J4A M42 J4A."

Motorway cameras showed heavy traffic[7] spread out across all lanes of the soutbound carriageway.

A further update from Inrix said that traffic had been stopped at around 10.55am today (September 3). The incident is causing congestion for motorists travelling south from the West Midlands. The M5 is a key route out of the region into the West Country and South West of England.
