M6 partially closed after HGV overturns

Part of the M6 in Lancashire has been closed after an HGV overturned and crashed into the central reservation, spilling fuel across the carriageway.

The northbound motorway has been shut between junctions 34 for Lancaster and 35 for Carnforth since the crash, which happened before 02:30 BST.

One lane of the southbound carriageway between junctions 35 and 34 was also closed, National Highways said.

Police said the northbound carriageway would be closed for some time while resurfacing and repair work took place.

Separately, the northbound slip road at junction 31 for Brockholes was also closed due to a van fire, Lancashire Police said.

There are also overnight closures for planned roadworks from 20:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday.

These will affect junction 36 and junction 39 northbound.
