M62 traffic LIVE updates as huge queues build up following crash

Drivers were facing long delays in both directions on the M62 following a crash near Saddleworth. Traffic was tailing back for several miles in either direction approaching the scene, between junctions 22 and 23. It followed a crash involving a van which crossed over the central reservation, according to National Highways.

All traffic was initially stopped following the collision. One lane was closed in each direction for hours for barrier repairs before it was reopened just before 7pm. Never miss a story with the MEN's daily Catch Up newsletter - get it in your inbox by signing up here[1]

On the westbound carriageway, traffic was tailing back to junction 25 at Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Drivers on the eastbound carriageway were also stuck in queues which backed up towards junction 21 at Milnrow. Motorists were facing queues of up to an hour approaching the scene, National Highways said at the time.

It comes as the region has been hit with heavy rain and strong winds, with a Met Office weather warning for wind in force until 6pm. Join our Traffic and Travel WhatsApp group HERE[2] Motorists are being urged to take care, with poor visibility on the M62 according to National Highways.
