M65 hit-and-run leaves two people injured as driver runs off into field
Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the M65 motorway left two drivers injured and a suspect on the run. The incident happened at around 5.15pm on Thursday, September 4, on the eastbound carriageway near Junction 3. A Citroen van was reported to be 'driving erratically at speed and weaving between lanes' before it collided with the back of an Audi.
The force of the impact pushed the Audi into a Vauxhall in front, causing injuries to the drivers of both vehicles. The driver of the Citroen van abandoned the vehicle in lane two and fled the scene on foot, reportedly running across the westbound carriageway and into nearby fields. Police say enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the driver.
Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the crash -- or saw the van prior to the collision -- to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to a witness who stopped at the scene, and to anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage. The full Lancashire Police[1] appeal issued today (September 9) read: "We are appealing for witnesses after a collision on the M65[2] motorway left two people injured.
