Places where most drivers were clocked by speed camera vans in June and July
Roadside operations by the Norfolk and Suffolk Safety Camera Partnership covered main routes including the A11 and A47 as well as smaller routes in numerous towns and villages across the county. The biggest speeding hotspot was Thetford where 819 motorists - 561 in June and 258 in July - were detected to be travelling over the limit. Cameras positioned at the busy Broadland interchange on the A47 at Postwick with Witton on the outskirts of Norwich clocked 577.
On the A11 mobile vans caught the most travelling on the A11 at Snetterton where 453 were detected. READ MORE: Drivers could be fined GBP1000 for sharing speed trap warnings[1] The onset of the busy summer months saw the numbers higher than all the preceding months this year with 8,965 in total.
Camera vans are often deployed on bridges overlooking the carriageway or in lay-bys to use video speed monitoring tech. Motorists caught are sent a notice of intended prosecution but for more serious speeding offences, the police may choose to take cases straight to court. Postwick was the speed camera hotspot on the A47(Image: Geograph/David Dixon) Away from the county's two busiest A roads other locations where a large number of speeding offences were seen were Hopton on Sea with 521, Cringleford with 368 and Wymondham with 358. Other check locations that saw more than 200 speeders hit with fixed penalty notices were Tilney St Lawrence with 293; Roudham with Larling 262; Carbrooke 256; Hethersett 224; and Cromer 204. Mobile cameras in Guist captured 186 while 171 were also recorded in Northwold, 151 in Bixley, and 167 at Walpole Highway.
