Police officers taken to hospital after crash at A66 roundabout leaves van badly damaged

Three people - including two police officers - attended hospital after a crash on the A66[1] which closed the carriageway. Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision[2] which occurred just after 12.15pm on Monday. Pictures showed debris on the road and the crumpled front bumper of a police van in the westbound carriageway at the Middlesbrough Road roundabout at the top of Cargo Fleet Lane.. A Cleveland Police[3] spokesperson said it was a two-vehicle collision involving a police van and a panel van with trailer.

The A66 westbound was closed, with a diversion along Middlesbrough Road. "Two police officers were taken to hospital to be checked over," said the spokesperson. The road was reopened just after 3pm. A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 12.18pm on Monday, September 22, to reports of a road traffic incident on Cargo Fleet roundabout in Middlesbrough[4].

We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader to the scene. "Our crews treated three patients on-scene: one patient made their own way to hospital with minor injuries, and an additional two patients were transported to hospital for further treatment."
