Police use unmarked lorry to catch poor drivers on M5

During a week of action, officers driving an HGV stopped 72 vehicles after detecting driving offences such as using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt on the M5, M42 and M54.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Last week we took part in Operation Tramline in partnership with National Highways. "A HGV cab travelled along the M5, M42 and M54 to detect a number of offences with the aim of improving road safety and changing behaviour of drivers along these routes.

"A total of 72 vehicles were stopped over the week with 79 offences detected. These included mobile phones, non seatbelt use, insecure loads, drink/drug driving amongst others. "In addition to Operation Tramline, enforcement along these routes takes place 24/7 by our roads policing officers and enforcement cameras.

Risk it and you will get caught."
