Surrey M25 car and lorry crash near Reigate leaves one in hospital
Traffic was halted for 20 minutes on the M25 as all lanes closed following a crash between a lorry and a car near Reigate[1] on Tuesday, September 23. One was taken to hospital as a result of the incident, and there were delays of up to an hour. Police were called to the scene heading anticlockwise on the M25[2] approaching Brighton Road, A217, near junction 8 at 6.55am.
Queues were building as a result of the incident and three lanes closed initially. Once National Highways traffic[3] officers arrived at the scene, all lanes shut for 20 minutes at 7.40am, to move the vehicles[4] off the carriageway and onto the hard shoulder. Just before 8am lanes four, three and two reopened, with lane one and the hard shoulder closed, ready for recovery.
During this time, there were seven miles of queues building from Reigate, back past Cobham[5] Services near Wisley. Many were delayed by up to an hour, according to National Highways. Surrey Police[6] were called to the scene to assist.
A spokesperson told SurreyLive: "Officers were called to a collision on the anticlockwise carriageway of the M25[7] shortly before 6.55am this morning involving a lorry and two cars. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution." All lanes reopened at 8.40am, however National Highways warned of residual delays of up to 20 minutes.
Traffic conditions returned to normal just before 10am.
