Van driver who killed cyclist in Ayrshire crash ‘showed absolutely no regard for the law’
A van driver who killed a cyclist in a fatal Ayrshire crash[1] has been jailed[2]. Police said Philip Scott, 40, showed "absolutely no regard for the law" in the "reckless" incident on the A760 near Dalry in August 2022. Cyclist Euan Thomson, 32, was struck by Scott's Mercedes van at around 6.35am on August 10, 2022.
Scott appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh having previously been found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving at the High Court in Kilmarnock. He was sentenced to six years in prison. Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of Euan Thomson.
We hope the outcome brings some comfort to them and allows them to move forward.

"Scott showed absolutely no regard for the law and his reckless actions highlight the devastating consequences of dangerous driving and the lasting impact it has on those involved, along with their families and friends."
