Woman caught driving at 57mph on motorway fined

Sheryl Childs was driving a Renault on the westbound side of the M27 when her speed was recorded by an automatic camera device. The 49-year-old was driving at 57mph between junction 10 and nine near Fareham[1] on May 8, 2024. At the time of the incident on February 22, 2024, a 50mph speed restriction was in force on the motorway, the court heard.

READ MORE: Busy road to shut for six months as works get underway[2] Childs, of Sullivan Road, Southampton, admitted a charge of exceeding a variable speed limit on Thursday, July 31, at Southampton Magistrates' Court. She avoided receiving a driving ban but was ordered to pay a fine of GBP400 and was given three points on her licence.

Childs must also pay prosecution costs of GBP65 and a GBP16 surcharge, a total of GBP121 to pay.

This was ordered to be paid in full by August 28.
