A350 traffic chaos at Chippenham after lorry overturns

The articulated lorry tipped onto its side in a crash on the Malmesbury Roundabout, on the A350 at Chippenham, at around 2am on Friday, October 17. Nearly 12 hours later, the road remained closed between Morrisons and the BP petrol station, and police warned that it would not reopen for the rest of the morning. This has caused traffic problems around Chippenham throughout the morning, with the closure of a busy road to the M4 forcing drivers to find alternative routes.

The lengthy closure is due to the complex recovery operation required to remove the lorry, which has also spilled its load of woodchips over the roundabout. Suggested reading Recovery crews have been working at the scene throughout the morning alongside police to try and clear the roundabout and reopen it to traffic.

As previously reported, a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving and was taken into custody in Melksham for questioning.

Any witnesses have been asked to call police on 101 and quote log 21 of Friday, October 17.
