A74 shut at border with England in both directions after crash
The road was closed after an HGV struck a bridge over the motorway. No injuries have been reported. Long delays have been reported with traffic backed up on both sides of the border.
Diversions have been put in place, but drivers have been asked to avoid the area if possible. The A74 is one of the main roads leading to England, and joins Glasgow to Carlisle. It becomes the M6 after Gretna.
Police Scotland said in a statement: "The A74 (M) is closed north and southbound at the border with Cumbria following a report of a crash involving one vehicle around 6.40am on Thursday, 2 October, 2025. "Diversions are in place. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and thanked for their patience."

The incident is being handled by Cumbria Police, who said: A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Police and emergency services are currently in attendance on the M6 due to a serious road traffic collision involving a HGV which occurred just prior to J45 Northbound.
"There is a closure in place between J45 -J55 Northbound and J22 and J45 Southbound.
"Motorists are advised to take alternative routes this morning as the road may be closed for some time.""
