Roads have reopened after a fatal collision in Cirencester in which a 19-year-old pedestrian died[1] following a collision with a lorry.

The collision on the A429 Bristol Road on Friday night saw the road closed throughout Saturday morning.

Somerford Road bridge over the dual carriageway was also closed following the incident.

The crash scene is reported to be half way between the fire station roundabout and the Waitrose roundabout, just before the bridge.

Police were at the scene into the afternoon with surrounding roads into town heavily congested - although the actual town centre is reported to be fine.

The road was reopened by 2pm.

One motorist told Gloucestershire Live: "The traffic is absolutely awful - trying to get into town is slow going and tricky because of road closures.

"We ended up parking on the edge of town and walking in.

"Literally, town is at a standstill. It's absolute traffic chaos.

"Traffic is queuing pretty much the whole length of Chesterton Lane."

Traffic and travel site Inrix reports: "A419 Bristol Road in both directions closed due to accident from Midland Road (Fire Station Roundabout) to Hammond Way."

Last night, Gloucestershire police said: "We are at the scene of a serious collision in Cirencester this evening (Friday 17 October).

"Emergency services were called to Bristol Road, close to the Waitrose store, at around 9.45pm this evening.

"The road remains closed at this time while emergency services remain at the scene.

"These are expected to remain in place for a number of hours with motorists asked to plan their route in advance and avoid the area."
