Four people taken to hospital after two car crash in Northumberland

A section of the A1 was closed in both directions for several hours on Friday

Four people have been taken to hospital following a two car crash in Northumberland[1]. A black Suzuki Swift car was reportedly travelling northbound on the A1 near Ellingham when it was struck by a grey VW Golf which was travelling south.

The collision happened just after 10am on Friday morning.

Two people, who were in the Suzuki, and two people from the Golf were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A section of the A1 was closed in both directions for several hours while vehicles were recovered. Northumbria Police[2] is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Just after 10am yesterday (Friday), police received a report of a two-car collision on the A1 at Ellingham. It was reported that a black Suzuki Swift car was travelling northbound when it was struck by a grey VW Golf which was travelling south.

"Four people - the two occupants of the Suzuki and two in the Golf - were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A section of the road was closed in both directions for several hours to allow for recovery of the vehicles involved and has since re-opened.

"Officers are appealing to any witnesses who saw what happened to contact them."
