Major traffic delays built up on the M25 in Surrey after a collision resulted in an overturned lorry[1]. The motorway[2] is shut in part in the anti-clockwise direction between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead) due to a collision. Emergency services are at the scene, where two male drivers were treated by medics.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported queueing traffic for eight miles with congestion to J11 (Chertsey).

Hour long delays expected into the night

Despite the closed lanes reopening on the M25, drivers have been told they can expect delays of up to an hour as traffic clears. National Highways said normal traffic conditions are not expected until between 23:15 and 23:30.

Motorway finally reopens but drivers warned to expect huge delays

The stretch of the M25 in Surrey that has been shut for seven hours after a major lorry crash has finally be reopened. Therefore, the M25 is now open anti-clockwise between J10 (Wisley) and J9 (Leatherhead).

Despite this, drivers can expect delays of 60 minutes above usual journey time as abotu six miles of congestion remains on the major motorway.

Police warn drivers to avoid the area

A spokesperson for Surrey Police shared an update and told drivers to avoid the crash area. In a statement, they said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a lorry on the M25 anti-clockwise between Junctions 10 (#Cobham) and 9 (#Leatherhead), at approximately 10.15am this morning (30 October).

"Two men sustained injuries and were treated at the scene. All four lanes remain closed and are expected to remain so for several hours while recovery takes place. Please find an alternative route and avoid the area if you can.

National Highways statement on 'complex recovery'

National Highways said: "The M25 remains closed anti-clockwise between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead) following the earlier collision. Complex recovery of the overturned lorry is ongoing. Delays on approach to the closure are at least 60 minutes above usual journey times."

South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "SECAmb was called at approx 10:40am this morning (30/10/25) to reports of an RTC on the M25 between junctions 10 and 9, near to Cobham.

Crews assessed and treated two male drivers at the scene."

National Highways estimating the traffic will return to normal somewhere between 5.30pm and 5.45pm. It follows a serious collision which led to a lorry overturning on the motorway.

National Highways has advised motorists to plan ahead if they need to travel on the M25 today. It follows a collision which resulted in a lorry turning onto its side. The statement said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

Diversion route after M25 collision

National Highways has published a diversion route for motorists after the M25 was closed anti-clockwise between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead).

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs.

  • Exit the M25 at J10 (Wisley Interchange) at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto A3 towards London.
  • Follow the A3 to Tolworth
  • Take the exit slip at A240 Tolworth Interchange and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto the A240 towards Reigate.
  • Continue onto A24 at Organ junction
  • At A24 Ewell By-pass roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A240 towards Reigate.
  • At A240/A217 Burg Heath junction, turn right at the traffic signals onto the A217 towards Reigate
  • Follow the A217 to M25
  • At M25 J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange) take the 1st exit and re-join the M25 at J8.
