M6 tragedy as biker dies at scene of smash

The motorway was shut off for several hours

A biker has died following a crash with a truck on the M6. Emergency services had been scrambled to the southbound stretch yesterday (October 6) afternoon.

West Midlands Police say that sadly the rider of the motorcycle died at the scene. Meanwhile the trucker 'remained at the scene to help officers with their enquiries.'

Police, paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service, and three fire engines from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, had been sent to the southbound carriageway near Junction 10.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 3pm after a collision involving a lorry and a motorcycle near Junction 10 of the M6.

"The rider of the motorcycle was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry remained at the scene to help officers with their enquiries."

All lanes reopened at around 10.40pm last night.
