M62 and M18 crash latest as police and paramedics issue statements

A lorry has crashed on the M62 slip road at junction 35[1], which connects the major Yorkshire motorway with the M18.

The westbound and eastbound slip roads at the junction have both been shut throughout the afternoon, causing long traffic [2]delays on the M62[3]. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and follow alternative routes.

A statement from Humberside Police said: "Officers are in attendance and road closures are in place on the slip road connecting the M18 to M62 westbound and eastbound following reports of a road traffic collision. Road users are advised to avoid the area and follow alternative routes."

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 2.48pm on Tuesday afternoon to report a collision on the slip road between the M62 westbound and M18 at junction 35. Ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene and one patient was checked over but did not need to be conveyed to hospital."

Photo evidence of the crash appears to show a lorry on the opposite side of the carriageway, close to the central reservation. Parts of the central reservation have been damaged, while there is debris on the motorway.

A second lorry carrying a mobile caravan parked itself across the carriageway to protect other cars from colliding with the debris on the road.

One witness, Phil Watson, commented on Facebook: "I think the lorry was delivering a mobile home.

It's a proper mess." Rob Rees said the crash "looked bad", adding: "Windscreen gone on lorry involved.

There's going to be no access to the M18 for some time."
