Man dies while walking dog near Scarborough caravan park as police hunt for witnesses

A man died while walking his dog near a Scarborough caravan park. The 67-year-old was hit by a car at around 6.30am on Monday, October 13, near Merry Lees Caravan Park. Sadly, the man died at the scene.

The dog was reportedly unharmed. The driver of the black Peugeot 208, a woman in her twenties, is cooperating with North Yorkshire[1] Police. Officers are now hunting for any dashcam footage or witnesses to the accident, reports Yorkshire Live[2].

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said yesterday: "North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal pedestrian collision on the A64 on the outskirts of Scarborough at 6.39am today. "It happened near the Merry Lees Caravan Park between the Staxton (A1039) roundabout and the Seamer (B1261) roundabout and involved a black Peugeot 208 car and a man who is believed to have been walking a dog.

"Sadly, the 67-year-old man died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported. The dog is unharmed.

The driver of the Peugeot, a woman aged in her 20s from Bridlington, is assisting officers with their investigation." As part of their investigations, emergency services shut the road in both directions. t reopened at 2.30pm yesterday. The police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage, or saw a man walking a dog in the vicinity prior to the event to come forward.
