One dead after car and lorry crash on major Yorkshire road

A 62-year-old woman has died after crashing into a lorry on a major North Yorkshire [1] road.

North Yorkshire Police [2] officers were called to the A165 in Speeton near Filey [3]on Tuesday, October 28 at around 12.20pm. At the scene, the driver of a black Ford Kuga car was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, while the passenger was airlifted to hospital. Both suffered life-threatening injuries.

The female passenger, who has not been named, died in hospital on Wednesday, October 29 evening.

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A165, in Speeton, Filey. Officers were called at 12.19pm on Tuesday 28 October by a member of the public who was reporting a collision between a black Ford Kuga car and a HGV.

"Emergency services attended and the driver of the car was taken to hospital via ambulance with life threatening injuries and the passenger of the car was taken to hospital via air ambulance with life threatening injuries.

The HGV driver was not injured in the collision.

"Sadly, the 62-year-old passenger passed away in hospital yesterday evening (29 October). Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers - our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time. The driver of the car remains in a stable condition in hospital.

The road remained closed for several hours to allow for collision investigation work and recovery to take place. Advertisement Advertisement
