This shocking footage reveals the terrifying moment a lorry driver from Teesside crashed into stationary traffic at 50mph. Kuljinder Singh rammed into the rear of a van, causing another vehicle to overturn and leaving three people with "life-changing serious injuries", including one individual choking on their own blood.

Sussex Police released the dramatic video following the sentencing of the 45-year-old Redcar man for three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Singh was still accelerating at the point of collision, having failed to apply the brakes of his Mercedes HGV on the A27 in Chichester.

The court heard that the incident occurred around 4.15pm on 8 August 2022, on the eastbound dual carriageway between the Fishbourne and Stockbridge roundabouts. Footage from inside Singh's lorry showed him failing to notice the stationary traffic ahead in lane one.

He accelerated to over 50mph upon impact, resulting in a collision with three other vehicles. The victim in the overturned car continues to suffer from life-altering injuries.

Two men who were in the van directly in front of the lorry also continue to endure the life-changing consequences of the crash.

One stated: "This has changed my life in every way, I now live with the lasting trauma of what happened. I remember waking up in the front passenger seat, I had previously been unconscious. The reason I awoke was because I was choking on my own blood.

I turned to my work colleague. I had no idea if he was alive or dead.", reports Teesside Live[1].

"I believe this collision was avoidable, I cannot understand what the driver of a HGV has crashed into us, causing multiple vehicles to be destroyed and causing me to sustain life-changing injuries."

"The driver of that HGV has destroyed my life," one victim said, while Sergeant Mark Farrow from the Roads Policing Unit added: "It is a miracle that no one was killed on the road that day."

Singh, of Ennis Square, Redcar, received a sentence of three years and 10 months in prison and was disqualified from driving for four years and 11 months.
