Four people taken to hospital after huge M40 crash in Warwickshire

Four people have been taken to hospital after a huge motorway smash involving a HGV, a van and multiple cars on the M40. Emergency services were called to a section of road between junctions 12 and 13 around 7.40pm on Tuesday night (4 November). West Midlands Ambulance Service sent five ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Warwickshire[1] and Northamptonshire Critical Care Car to the scene.
The incident closed by sides of the busy motorway for hours, well into the next morning, causing huge traffic issues in the surrounding area. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "On arrival crews found six patients. A man and a woman were treated for serious injuries, and both were conveyed under emergency driving conditions to University Hospital Coventry[2] and Warwickshire.
"A second man was treated for potentially serious injuries, and a third man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Two further people did not wish to be assessed." National Highways West Midlands has confirmed a HGV 'crossed the carriageway' and collided into two other vehicles.
On its website, it states: "The incident involved a heavy goods vehicle which crossed from the northbound carriageway across to the southbound carriageway and subsequently collided with 2 other vehicles. "This has caused significant damage to the central reservation barrier and will require emergency repairs." At the time of writing, the M40 southbound is still closed due to this incident, with huge delays reported.
